General FAQs

Why are GTech Clean® Products so different?

All GTech Clean® Antimicrobial products utilize silane technology that “electrocutes” the target organism on contact. GTech Clean® molecularly bonds to a treated surface.

My bottle froze. Can I still use it?

Yes, GTech Clean can freeze in sub-zero temperatures. If it does freeze, the product can still be used after thawing and stirring or shaking it up.

Do I need to wear a mask or evacuate the area when using GTech Clean?

GTech does not contain any VOCs. Evacuation of the area during use is not required. However, if you are in an area with heavy contamination or mold growth, a mask would be a good idea to limit your inhalation of harmful bacteria or mold spores.

How often do I need to apply GTech?

Our general recommendation is every 15 days. But if you have highly trafficked areas, you may need to apply every 10 days due to wear. GTech can be scratched from surfaces, so highly trafficked carpeted areas, doorknobs and handles, light switches, remotes, phones and desks are a good example of areas that may need more frequent treatment.

Do molds affect my health?

Most molds do not harm healthy people. But people who have allergies or asthma may be more sensitive to molds. Sensitive people may experience skin rash, running nose, eye irritation, cough, nasal congestion, and aggravation of asthma or difficulty breathing. People with an immune suppression or underlying lung disease, may be at increased risk for infections from molds.

A small number of molds produce toxins called mycotoxins. When people are exposed to high levels of mold mycotoxins they may suffer toxic effects, including fatigue, nausea, headaches, and irritation to the lungs and eyes.

If you have health problems that you suspect are caused by exposure to mold, you should consult with your physician.

When is mold a problem?

You know you have mold when you smell the “musty” odor or see small black or white specks along your damp bathroom, basement or facility walls. Some mold is hidden growing behind wall coverings or ceiling tiles. Even dry, dead mold can cause health problems, so always take precautions when you suspect mold. Mold is often found in areas where water has damaged building materials and furniture from flooding or plumbing leaks.

Mold can also be found growing along walls where warm moist air condenses on cooler wall surfaces, such as inside cold exterior walls, behind dressers, headboards, and in closets where articles are stored against walls. Mold often grows in rooms with both high water usage and humidity, such as kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, locker rooms, and basements. If you notice mold or know of water damaged areas in your home, it is time to take action to control its growth.

Household Use FAQs

Is GTech Clean safe for use around children and animals?

Yes. It leaves no residue that would be harmful to children or pets. Although GTech is safe to use with animals, do not allow animals in contact with unabsorbed liquid. When all surfaces are dry, return the animal and the food and water containers. GTech is safe for horses too! Use on helmets, chaps, boots, gloves, halters, bits, bridles, saddles, and all your other equipment.

Will GTech remove mold in my basement or garage?

Yes. Your garage and basement can trap moisture, allowing for pockets of mold and mildew to grow. When left untreated, mold and mildew can harm your home and breed unhealthy bacteria. Apply GTech to concrete, wood, plaster, or drywall to eliminate mold and mildew, and keep your home from the destructive damage that mold and mildew can cause.

Is it safe for furniture and carpets?

Yes. Vacuuming and stain cleaners do not kill germs and bacteria on your carpets. Even carpet cleaners can’t kill pet odors the way GTech does. Spray GTech on your carpets, furniture and draperies to kill germs, eliminate odors, and bring a fresh feel to your home.

Can I paint over GTech?

Yes. If you wish to treat and then repaint a moldy surface, first clean the area, then apply the solution. Allow to dry for 24 hours, then paint. To prevent re-growth, retreat the painted area with GTech, making sure the paint is completely dry.

Is it safe for hard surfaces in my home?

Yes. GTech is safe for hard surfaces including concrete, wood, plaster, tile, and drywall. Spray with GTech to eliminate mold and mildew, and keep your home safe from the destructive damage that mold and mildew can cause.

I used GTech Clean and nothing seemed to happen. Did the product work?

When GTech dries on the moldy or contaminated surface, it crushes the cells. This action is not visible, but you can be assured that it’s working. While you may be use to using bleach products that whiten the stains, this product contains no bleaches or whiteners so may require some elbow grease to remove the stains.

Bleach is a potent chemical and may pose health risks to users and to occupants during and after use. While bleach will kill the mold, it will not prevent the mold from returning to the cleaned surface. It may look clean, but the mold will often grow back within weeks.

First Responder and Law Enforcement Use FAQs

Does GTech Clean kill COVID-19?

Yes, GTech Clean meets the EPA's criteria for products that may be used against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19 ("..an EPA registration number and that human coronavirus is listed as a target pathogen.") In addition, GTech Clean is included in the Oregon Department of Agriculture Pesticides Program "Full List of Effective Disinfectants to Help Fight Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19"), which can be accessed here.

How long will the GTech Clean 5 Gallons last?

This is dependent on a few factors, including (1) if a fogger will be used to disinfect vehicles and rooms (recommended), (2) how many vehicles, (3) the size of the room(s), and (4) how often they will be disinfected. But here are some basic assumptions to help: Our fogger disperses approximately 1 oz. to 1.5 oz. per minute. It takes approximately 1 minute to fog an SUV. If you have a fleet of 50 vehicles and disinfect 2x/week, the 5 Gallons will last approximately 5 to 7 weeks. As another example, it takes approximately 5 minutes to fog a 1,000 square foot room. If you disinfect this room 2x per week, the 5 Gallons will last approximately 40 to 50 weeks.

Can we use the GTech Clean 5 Gallons to fill the 16 oz. bottles?

Yes, most agencies purchase one 16 oz. bottle for all personnel, and then refill these bottles with the 5 Gallons. This is a much more cost effective protocol.

Should we purchase the GTech Clean 5 Gallon or the 16 oz. Spray Bottles?

Most agencies purchase the 5 Gallons to be used for a fogger machine when disinfecting vehicles and rooms (briefing room, report writing room, cells, booking area, locker rooms, equipment room, comm center, etc.). The 5 Gallon container is the most economical and cost efficient size for most agencies. The 16 oz. spray bottles are often used for spraying down personal equipment and uniforms. The 16 oz. bottles are usually used in the field to spray vehicle door handles, handcuffs and other hard or soft surfaces that the operator believes might have become compromised. In addition, we recommend using the 16 oz. spray bottle to disinfect face masks at the end of a shift or anytime when you can wait for the mask to dry before wearing it.

Do I need to wear a mask or evacuate the area when using GTech Clean?

GTech does not contain any VOCs. Evacuation of the area during use is not required. GTech Clean is non-toxic and contains no harmful chemicals. Your body's natural response to any foreign substance entering your airway is to trigger a cough. For this reason, we recommend wearing a dust mask when fogging with GTech Clean, especially in closed and not well-ventilated areas. Safety glasses or goggles is also recommended, especially when implementing heavy fogging for large areas/rooms.

How often should we disinfect with GTech Clean?

Once applied, GTech Clean's proprietary formula leaves a protective barrier that continues to kill viruses, bacteria, mildew and mold for up to 5 days. We suggest disinfecting rooms and vehicles 2x per week. For high frequency community touch points, we recommended spraying or fogging more often.

Any tips for using the GTech Clean 16 oz. Spray Bottle?

Yes, remember less is more. For most applications, ensure the nozzle is turned to mist rather than jet or stream setting. As you spray the surface move your hand slowly to spread the mist over a wider area. There's no need to respray the same area - a thin layer is all that's needed to kill pathogens and put down a layer of protection that will last up to 5+ days. If the surface is noticeably wet with GTech Clean, it's OK to simply wipe with a dry cloth or paper towel and spread the solution around the surface area.
